FAQ

What exactly is CrossFit 906?

CF906 is an independently owned Strength & Conditioning gym or “Box” as we like to call it. Our gym is very community based and you’ll feel like a part of a big family here. Most importantly, we won’t let you fail!

How do I get started?

We have a page just for that! Unlike most gyms and fitness facilities that take a “show & go” and good luck approach- our Coaches are hands-on with every OnRamp/WOD class. It’s like having a personal trainer with you during the posted times. So don’t worry about getting started… once you are here, we’ll help you every step of the way.

How much does it cost?

Here is our Prices page.

Why does CrossFit cost more than other fitness facilities, e.g. Big Box Gyms?

We’re glad you’re asking that question! CrossFit 906 is the complete opposite of a big box gym. We are not a gym that you will be paying in excess of $60 to $100 per hour for a personal trainer. WE ARE a gym that promises the same very close attention you would receive from a personal trainer, every day, in every OnRamp/WOD posted class session.

What we do is high-performance, small-group personal training. Every class is instructed by a knowledgeable CrossFit trainer who is there to guide, motivate and push you to a higher level of fitness. We will teach you the skills, habits, and nutritional knowledge you will need to achieve revolutionary results and sustain a lifetime of fitness. When you come to CrossFit 906, you are ready to INVEST IN YOURSELF! And we are ready to invest in you, your goals, your weight-loss and strength training.

Do I need experience, or some minimum level of fitness?

No. Our workouts and exercises scale to any level. You aren’t competing against anyone else in the room… except yourself.

When can I work out? Can I just come in on my own and work out?

We do have a schedule of training/class times. However, here at CF906 we also run a 24-7 “open gym” model once you graduate OnRamp. Here is our class schedule.

I’m pretty fit. Can I skip the OnRamp or Intro Session?

Probably not, and we wouldn’t advise it. Our course is not about fitness level. It is about getting you educated on our program, how our gym works, and the basic building blocks to build your strength.

Can I CrossFit with a neck, back, or shoulder injury?

Yes, we have numerous clients who came to us with these injuries and have found relief by strengthening the muscles around the problem area. People often neglect exercising their lower back due to fear or re-injury and then end up weak, de-conditioned, and more susceptible to injury in the future. Every movement in CrossFit is scalable allowing you to take part. For example, if we have programmed deadlifts (picking an object off the ground) you can scale it down using a PVC pipe or just mimicking the movement for rehab.

I hear CrossFit is hard. Is it for me?

CrossFit is as hard as YOU make it. When you first start you need to take it slow and learn the movements. We encourage you to push yourself as hard as you can which makes CrossFit hard. You are only competing against yourself; no one else. CrossFit is for everyone – kids, seniors, moms, professionals – you name it! It doesn’t matter what your current fitness level is – we scale every workout to match your current abilities and increase load as your fitness progresses.

How about nutrition? Do you provide nutrition classes?

Yes, we address nutrition because you can easily sabotage your workout simply by eating the wrong foods. We ask that you attend one of our FREE Nutritional Classes within 30-days of joining the gym. If you commit to combining training and nutrition, you will see the most amazing results.

I want to lose weight. Will I?

Yes, you will, if you follow the very simple nutritional plan. We’ll give you literature and walk you through what you need to have in your house and the easy food (grocery store) you need.

I want to tone my body and see muscle definition. Will I?

Yes, you will. By following the nutritional plan and attending CrossFit 906 consistently, you will tone and see muscle definition.

I don’t want to get too bulky. Will CrossFit add too much muscle?

We get asked this one all the time… and not to worry — CrossFit will increase lean body mass, but not to the degree most people think. Since CrossFit is a core strength and conditioning program and not a bodybuilding program, your results will be a fitter, leaner, more toned version of yourself. If you are interested in adding bulk, we can always modify your routine to accommodate your goals.

Can I participate in the Running Clinic if I’m not a member of CF906?

Yes! (see the Running Clinic page for more information.)

Do you allow drop-ins? Can I visit from out of town?

YES! We love visitors! We do have an $10.00 drop in fee for individual workouts, or you can buy one of our t-shirts in place of the drop-in fee. If possible, please get yourself scheduled for your drop in workout prior to arriving, by E-mailing us or leaving us a message at (906) 486-8FIT.

Do you have t-shirts?

Of course we do. And sweatshirts and bondi bands and tanks and license plate frames… and… 😉

I’ve had an injury. Can I still do CrossFit?

Many of our members have successfully used CrossFit to rehabilitate from minor injuries. Because people continue to move, work, and play in the real world regardless of injury history. Remember, we scale our workouts to fit your fitness, strength level. Tell us your injury and we’ll scale the workout for you.

How can I find out about upcoming events at CF906?

We have an upcoming events widget in the sidebar on every page of the website. This is where we list all of our special WODs and events at 906. Full details on the event, dates and times are included. You can find it on the home page, sidebar, righthand side. If you are reading this on a smartphone, scroll down just past the class schedule on the home page.

My schedule isn’t always consistent. Will I be able to work around it?

YES, we have 3 different times to attend for both OnRamp and Workout of the Day (W.O.D.) training.
After graduation of the OnRamp course, you have 24-7 keyfob access to the box (that’s what we call the gym).

Does CrossFit use unnatural movements?

No. With CrossFit based training, we like to say, “the magic is in the movements.” We safely and effectively work towards our fitness goals. High skill movements such as the Clean and Jerk and the Snatch are approached by mastering other, more basic movement patterns. At the foundation of the movements lie the most basic of all functional movements: Squat, Deadlift, Pushup, Pull-up, and the Press.

Mastery of each of these basic movements is the priority of each CrossFitter here. Each of the functional movements listed above are examples of compound movements that have the capacity to ultimately move relatively large loads — especially compared to less functional movements. What is the basis behind CrossFit methodology? Natural, functional movements that help you both in and out of the gym and will get in the best shape of your life!

Is CrossFit safe for children and adolescents?

ABSOLUTELY! Not only is it safe, it’s research-based and very beneficial for them. CF906 has the only certified CrossFit Kids program in our area. We do NOT take adult workouts and scale them for children! It is entirely different programming, done by our Certified CrossFit Kids trainer, and we categorize our classes based on both age and ability. We also offer a CrossFit Teens class.

Want more info on our CFK program? Visit our CrossFit Kids or CrossFit Teens page for more information.

Are CrossFit workouts long enough to be effective?

Yes. Take one look at the results our athletes have gotten (see our results page) and if that isn’t proof enough, here’s some more data for you:

CrossFit is constantly varied, high intensity, functional movements. In order to keep the intensity high, our work period is short. The goal is to move large loads, long distances, quickly.

What do we mean by power and intensity?

  • Power: Work done or energy transferred per unit of time; The time rate of doing work.
  • Power = Force x distance / time
  • Intensity: Magnitude, as of energy or a force per unit of area, volume, time, etc.
  • Power = Intensity

So why is power so important? Because power = intensity, and intensity = results!

Can I bring my children with me while I work out?

Yes, at CF906 we have a Kids Corner in which your children can play while you get your workout in. (Parents are responsible for watching them at all times, however.) Please bring something for your children to do In the corner while you workout.

Does my CrossFit trainer work out with me?

No, if you are attending a posted OnRamp or Workout of the Day (W.O.D.) session, your trainer is not your workout buddy. They aren’t there to get their workout in. They are there to help you with form, keep you safe from injury, encourage you and provide relentless positive reinforcement, motivation and guidance in a safe supportive environment, not show off their skills.

Are CrossFit trainers “legit”?

Yes, CrossFit trainers study, train and are tested through a national program to ensure your safety while helping you reach your goal. (For more information, see CrossFit Seminars and Tests.)

The owners at CF906 have 5 plus years of experience with the sport.

Is CrossFit dangerous?

No, CrossFit is research based, functional, safe and scalable to every fitness level. Just like every activity, the participant has the obligation and responsibility to follow instructions given by their trainers on load and form. The participant must always listen to their own bodies, and scale back workouts when returning to CrossFit from a break period.

How do I pay?

We accept checks, credit cards, debit cards and cash.
